A Shiva shrine north-west of Sitamarhi town in the Mithila region, documented as older than the 17th century and one of the busier pilgrimage sites of northern Bihar, especially during Shravan.
What follows is the temple’s own traditional account, transmitted through liturgy and local memory. It is recorded here as tradition, not as attested history.
The temple is said to have been founded by King Videha while he performed the putra-yeshti sacrifice, and named Haleshwarnath after him.
