History & significance

A red sandstone panchayatana temple at Barua Sagar near Jhansi, ascribed to the Gurjara-Pratihara emperor Mihira Bhoja around 860 and protected by the Archaeological Survey of India since 1928; its main image is lost, leaving only the pedestal and a jewelled stone foot, and its walls carry sculpture often compared with Khajuraho.
