An 8th-century group of red-brick shrines at Kalayat in Kaithal district, laid out as a panchayatana of five temples of which two survive. They are built of locally made bricks laid without mortar or plaster, the Shiva shrine following the pancharatha plan and its shikhara bricks forming a beehive pattern.
The place name is traced to Kapilayatana, the abode of the sage Kapila, and the temples are popularly attributed to Raja Salban (Shalivahana).
