A temple in the Chennai suburb of Mangadu where Parvati is worshipped as Tapas Kamakshi, the goddess at her penance. Its chief object of worship is an Ardhameru yantra that receives only kumkum offerings, and the seven-tiered rajagopuram is a recent addition; the temple is run by the Tamil Nadu HR&CE department.
Parvati is said to have done severe penance on this spot, standing amid fire with one foot raised, to rejoin Shiva after playfully covering his eyes, and Adi Shankara is held to have installed the Ardhameru chakra to cool the heat of her austerity.
