Excavations between 1994 and 2002 uncovered a large brick and limestone stupa with sculptured drum slabs, Buddha images and 145 inscriptions, including a portrait panel labelled Raya Asoko - a rare contemporary depiction of the emperor Ashoka. Its carving sits between the earlier Amaravati and later Nagarjunakonda manners.
