History & significance

Known as Kandhakottam, this Murugan temple near Parry's Corner was founded in the 1670s by Maari Chettiar around an image brought from a tank near Thiruporur, and rebuilt in stone in the early 1800s. It covers about eight acres, is administered by the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, and is remembered as a place of worship of the saint Ramalinga Swamigal.
