One of the better-known Shiva temples of Madhubani district, set in a walled compound with subsidiary shrines and old sculptures. A large tank was dug beside it with help from the Darbhanga Raj to supply water for ritual, and in Shrawan pilgrims come from across Bihar for the jalabhishek of the linga.
What follows is the temple’s own traditional account, transmitted through liturgy and local memory. It is recorded here as tradition, not as attested history.
The linga is said to have been installed here by the sage Kapila, from whom the temple takes its name.
