History & significance

A Shiva temple at Kamarasavalli near Thirumanur in Ariyalur district, with an east-facing sanctum, a south-facing shrine for Balambika, and the usual rajagopura, prakaram, vimana and kosta niches.

Sthala katha — the legend

The serpent Karkotaka is shown in sculpture worshipping Shiva here with Vinayaka and Nandi, and those born under the sign of Cancer are said to find relief by praying at this shrine.
