A guardian-deity temple about 14 km from Thiruchendur, set in a tract of red sand dunes often called the only desert in South India and ringed by cashew and palm. Its Kallar Vettu festival across late Karthigai and early Margazhi involves coconut-breaking and holy water carried from the Thamirabarani, and the last consecration was held on 1 September 2022.
The deity is said to have emerged from a tree called Karkuva, and devotees gather the sand where the festival coconut water falls, believing it brings prosperity and guards against theft.
