The principal temple of Cherthala, where the goddess is worshipped in an aniconic form set below ground level and held to be self-manifested. Its Cherthala Pooram is reckoned second among Kerala's poorams and is unusual for an Aarattu performed twice daily; Gandhi addressed a gathering here on 18 January 1937.
The saint Vilwamangalam Swamiyar is said to have consecrated the goddess at this spot on his way back from installing the deity at the Padmanabhaswamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram.
