A Durga temple at Kathiramangalam in Thanjavur district, 25 km from Kumbakonam, whose principal image of the goddess stands six feet high. The installation is ascribed to the sage Agastya and its early worship to the sage Mrikandu.
The goddess is said to travel to Kashi each night and return by morning, and to have covered the poet Kambar's house with paddy when heavy rain fell as he composed his Ramayana here.
