One of the better-known Subramanya shrines in Kerala, on the banks of the Meenachil river. Kidangoor was among the sixty-four Nambudiri settlements lying on the frontier between the Vadakkumkur and Thekkumkur kingdoms, and the site also holds a Vishnu shrine reckoned older than the Subramanya temple.
What follows is the temple’s own traditional account, transmitted through liturgy and local memory. It is recorded here as tradition, not as attested history.
Temple tradition says the Subramanya idol slipped from a sage's water pot and travelled along with the water until it came to rest at the older Vishnu shrine.
