Koranad, Mayiladuthurai, Tamil Nadu · 11.0954°, 79.6435°
A Shiva temple in the Koranad neighbourhood of Mayiladuthurai, Tamil Nadu, where the god is worshipped as Punukeeswarar with the goddess Santhanayaki. The name preserves the civet-musk (punugu) association that gives the shrine its identity.
A civet is said to have found a lingam in a paddy field at Koranad and anointed it with its own fragrant musk, until Shiva appeared and granted the animal a place at Kailash.
