A Veerashaiva pilgrimage centre in the town of Kotturu, which takes its name from the saint Guru Kottureshwara; the complex is made up of four mathas, among them the Murkal Matha, where the saint is said to have first appeared, and the Darbar Matha, where he heard people's troubles.

Local tradition holds that Nandi came down from Kailasa in the form of the saint to protect the Veerashaiva faith, that those who harassed him were struck blind, and that he brought a dead buffalo back to life with a touch of his hand.
