One of the five major Sastha temples of Kerala, where the deity is worshipped as a child and known as the Kulathupuzha Balakan; it is administered by the Travancore Devaswom Board. Devotees seeking relief from skin ailments make the Meenoottu offering of feeding the fish in its pond, which shelters the endangered Tor khudree and Hypselobarbus thomassi.
Sastha is said to have allowed a mermaid-like being drawn to him to live on in the temple pond in the form of a fish.
