An ancient Shvetambara Jain temple at Kolanupaka whose foundation is placed in the ninth century, when the Kalachuri ruler Shankaragana granted it twelve villages, and which flourished further under the Rashtrakutas. Its interior is finished in red sandstone and white marble; more than twenty inscriptions link it to the Kanur Gana monastic lineage, and a Kannada inscription of 1125 CE from the Western Chalukya emperor Someshvara III records its standing.
Shvetambara tradition credits the original temple to the legendary emperor Bharata Chakravartin.
