A thirteenth-century Kalachuri Shiva temple at Deobaloda, protected by the Archaeological Survey of India, whose shikhara is now missing. Local tradition that it went up in only six months earned it the nickname the six-month temple, and a stepped tank beside it is held to be linked to Arang by a tunnel.
What follows is the temple’s own traditional account, transmitted through liturgy and local memory. It is recorded here as tradition, not as attested history.
The sculptor is said to have worked so absorbed that he laboured naked; when his sister came with his food both leapt into the ponds in shame, and he is said to have taken the tunnel from the tank to Arang, where he turned to stone.
