History & significance

A medieval Shiva temple at Sharanakula in Nayagarh district that blends Kalinga and Dravidian forms and is a focus of Shaiva worship in southern Odisha. Unusually for a Hindu temple, its priesthood has long been drawn from lower castes; Mahashivaratri is its main festival.
