One of the 108 Durga temples of Kerala traditionally ascribed to Parashurama, now under the Cochin Devaswom Board. Its goddess takes part in the Thrissur Pooram, arriving with nine elephants to pay respects at the Vadakkunnathan temple, and the place name is explained as a worn form of yagoor, from the yagas once performed there.
A mantra inscribed within the temple is said to be the one the gopis used when they worshipped the goddess to gain Krishna as their husband.
