History & significance

A Nava Tirupati Divya Desam on the Tamiraparani where the presiding lord takes his name from the makara - fish-shaped - earrings he wears, flanked by Sridevi and Bhudevi.

Sthala katha — the legend

Bhudevi, cursed by the sage Durvasa, is said to have been restored when fish-shaped earrings found on the riverbank were offered to Vishnu here.
