A Theravada Buddhist temple at Sale in Myanmar's Magway Region that enshrines the Shinbin Maha Laba Man Buddha, a hollow gold-lacquered figure of about 20 feet said to be the largest lacquer Buddha image in the country. The image itself is dated to around 1300.
What follows is the temple’s own traditional account, transmitted through liturgy and local memory. It is recorded here as tradition, not as attested history.
The image is said to have floated downriver from Monywa to Sale during the great floods of 1888.
