A Shakta temple at Anaimalai near Pollachi, in existence before 1000 CE and kept by many families as their kuladevi shrine. Its goddess is unusual in being shown reclining, some 15 feet from head to foot, holding a damaru, a fire bowl, a kumkum bowl and a trident.
Local tradition tells of a woman executed for eating from a cruel king's mango grove, whose execution stone came to be worshipped with offerings of ground red chilli.
