History & significance

A Vaishnava temple at Cherpu in Thrissur district where Vishnu is worshipped in his dwarf incarnation Vamana, with subsidiary shrines to Ganesha, a guru figure and Annapoorneswari.

Sthala katha — the legend

The temple recalls Vamana's asking of King Mahabali for three paces of ground, a lesson against pride; the image is held by tradition to be more than 1,500 years old.
