A Buddhist monastery and stupa complex in a quiet valley near Taxila, set far enough from the city of Sirsukh for monks to meditate yet close enough for the daily alms round. Excavated by John Marshall in 1914-15, it preserves a main stupa on a high plinth and a two-storey monastery of 27 cells around a courtyard pool, and forms part of the Taxila World Heritage Site inscribed in 1980.
