A shrine on the Valapattanam river where worship is conducted not through image ritual but through the theyyam performances Thiruvappan and Vellattam, enacted daily. It is unusual among Kerala temples in being open to all castes and communities.

A divine boy who appeared as Shiva in the guise of a hunter turned the toddy-tapper Chantan to stone in a quarrel over palm toddy, and after propitiatory rites was honoured as Muthappan and worshipped as a deity.
