History & significance

One of the oldest temples of Hanamkonda, standing on a rock whose earliest Shaivite cave shrine is older than the fifth century; a Jain shrine was cut here in 1117 and a Brahmanical shrine took its place after about 1156, leaving Jain sculpture in place around the present temple. Thousands of women gather at it each year for Bathukamma.
