History & significance

A 13th-century shrine on the shore of Kolleru Lake, raised by an Eastern Ganga army general in the reign of Narasingha Deva I and built in a Kalinga idiom mixed with southern design; it remains a local pilgrimage centre.

Sthala katha — the legend

The general is said to have sacrificed his daughter to win a battle against a rival encampment at Kolleru, and to have built the temple over her memory when the victory came.
