History & significance

A Shiva temple at Punnainallur near Thanjavur, one of the 88 shrines of the Thanjavur Palace Devasthanam administered by the Tamil Nadu HR&CE department. A Nataraja bronze stolen from it in 1971 was recovered from the Asia Society Museum in New York and returned in 2021.
