A temple traced to the 8th century that serves as a halt for pilgrims travelling to Sabarimala, known for its stone carvings and for a golden flagstaff raised in 1952. Its ten-day festival in Medam ends with an arattu procession to the Achenkovil river accompanied by more than ten caparisoned elephants.
Tradition connects the deity to the village of Kalleli near Konni, whose people are said to have cast the image into the Achenkovil river after losing at the dice game of choothu.
