A Goud Saraswat Brahmin temple at Bandora in Ponda, moved here from Loutolim in 1566 to save it from destruction under Portuguese rule and largely rebuilt in 1905. It follows the panchayatana arrangement with five shrines, the older Betal and Kalbhairav structures having been kept from before the rebuilding; the temple marked 450 years on the site in May 2011.
The lineage of the deity is traced to Rama, who is said to have installed a Shivalinga at Rameswaram in expiation for the killing of the brahmin Ravana.
