History & significance

One of the Panch Prayag, where the Mandakini flowing down from Kedarnath meets the Alaknanda. The Rudranath temple, dedicated to Shiva in his Rudra aspect, stands at the confluence.

Sthala katha — the traditional account

What follows is the temple’s own traditional account, transmitted through liturgy and local memory. It is recorded here as tradition, not as attested history.

The sage Narada is said to have meditated at the Narad Shila here to learn music from Shiva.
