A pilgrimage site around a large tank on the Kurigram-Lalmonirhat boundary, founded by the zamindar Raj Narayan Chakraborty and carrying shrines to Durga, Krishna, Vishnu, Rama and Kali. The complex was restored under a government programme in 1975.
What follows is the temple’s own traditional account, transmitted through liturgy and local memory. It is recorded here as tradition, not as attested history.
A childless zamindar is said to have dug the tank in hope of offspring and named his two daughters Sindur and Moti after they were born; during a Navami puja held at the centre of the tank the water rose and drowned them, and after he dreamed that they had become immortal the water took their names.
