A Shiva temple in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram, reckoned more than seven centuries old and run by the Travancore Devaswom Board; the older Pazhaya Sreekanteswaram temple is held to be the deity's original seat. Its ten-day festival falls in Dhanu, with the arattu on Thiruvathira day.
An elderly sweeper from the old Sreekanteswaram temple is said to have rested at this spot, received a vision of Shiva, and found the self-manifested lingam there.
