A Buddhist temple in the Galle District grown up around a Bodhi tree planted about 1750, with image houses holding Buddha statues including a marble figure presented from Burma. Its systematic development as a monastery began in 1970.

Its Bodhi tree is held to be one of the eight branches taken from the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi at Anuradhapura.
