History & significance

A Shiva shrine near Siruganur in Tiruchirappalli district counted among the Vaippu Sthalams praised in the hymns of the Nayanar saint Appar. For three days in the Tamil month of Masi the sun's rays are said to fall directly on the presiding deity.
