A temple on the bank of the Gayatri river at Alathur, one of the 108 famous Shiva temples of Kerala, with three shrines: square sanctums for Shiva and Krishna and a circular one for Narasimha. It was once held by the Kavalappara Swarupam of the Palakkad rulers and is referred to in several Malayalam classics.
Folklore holds that the sage Parashurama installed the Shiva idol in the Treta Yuga, the temple being raised to calm the god's power.
