One of the very few temples with two Murugan sanctums, the northern holding the warrior form and the southern the child form, and one of the two principal Subramanya temples of Pathanamthitta district. It is laid out on the pancha-prakara plan of five enclosures in traditional Kerala style, with Uthrada Maholsavam and Maha Shivaratri as chief festivals.
The deity of the second sanctum is said to have been worshipped by Sakthibhadra, author of the drama Ascharyachudamani, whose story links the temple to Shankaracharya.
