A goddess temple in the Woraiyur neighbourhood of Tiruchirappalli, known since early Chola times though no records fix its date, and now run by the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Endowment Board. Its defining feature is that the sanctum has no roof.
Devotees hold that a roof once raised over the sanctum was burnt away by the goddess's own power, and that unlike Nataraja she never changed her raised leg, keeping the stance that shows her force.
