A sixteenth-century Vishnu temple in Kongunadu style at Mondipalayam near Avinashi in Tiruppur district, known as Melathiruppathi and treated as a substitute Tirupati by devotees who cannot travel to Tirumala. The self-manifested image is flat-sided with a conical centre, and its Thirukalyana Utsavam is timed to the Tirumala ceremony.
A man named Kondamanaicker is said to have noticed his cow letting down milk on a sandhill and, digging there, to have uncovered the image bearing the conch and discus.
