Rock-cut Shiva cave temples at Vijayawada excavated by the Eastern Chalukyas around the middle of the 7th century, the upper cave holding three shrines to different forms of Shiva and the lower caves showing experimental carving of a nagara-rekha superstructure. They are protected monuments of national importance, and take their present name from Akkanna and Madanna, ministers of Golconda a thousand years later.
