One of the five Pancharama Kshetras sacred to Shiva, built at Palakollu during the Chalukya period in the 9th century under Chalukya Bhima. Its prakara was laid out in the 10th century by Sri Velupathi and its gopuram raised in the 14th under Alladu Reddy, with a kalyana mantapam and a Lakshmi Narayana shrine added in the 17th century.
