History & significance

A Shiva temple in Kanchipuram revered in the 7th-century Tamil Saiva canon Tevaram and counted among the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams. It remains an active place of worship maintained by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Sthala katha — the legend

Tradition holds that Vinayaka himself installed the lingam here, and that the deity slew the demon king Kesi and brought about Vinayaka's marriage to his daughter Vallabai.
