History & significance

A two-shrine (dvikuta) temple raised in 1173 by the wealthy officer Buci to mark the coronation of Hoysala king Veera Ballala II, its second sanctum given to Surya. Koravangala was a busy twelfth-century town with at least six temples, several endowed by Buci's brothers.
