A trikuta Vaishnava temple in soapstone built in 1246 by the commander Bommanna Dandanayaka during the reign of the Hoysala king Vira Someshwara, in a town then called Vijaya Somanathapura and endowed as an agrahara. Its walls carry about 120 sculpted panels of deities and epic scenes, work attributed to the Hoysala sculptors Baichoja and Mallitamma.
