History & significance

Built between 1490 and 1509 by Pemmasani Ramalinga Nayudu I, a chief of the Gutti-Gandikota country, on the south bank of the Penna at Tadipatri. Its walls carry reliefs of Ramayana and Mahabharata episodes, the west-facing linga is held to be swayambhu, and a row of slender pillars sounds the seven notes when struck. The temple's history is recorded in the Tadipatri kaifiyat collected by Colin Mackenzie in 1802.
