A terraced fifteenth-century Javanese-Hindu temple at 1,495 metres on the western slope of Mount Lawu, on the boundary between Central and East Java, and one of a small group built on these slopes in the same period. Like nearby Sukuh it departs sharply from the Indian-derived forms of the eighth to tenth centuries, and it belongs to the last significant phase of temple building in Java before the island's courts converted to Islam in the sixteenth century.
