History & significance

A hill temple at Hosur with 13th-century inscriptions, credited to the Hoysala chief Thirupuvanamalla Barvatharaja Anthiyazhvar around 1260 and enlarged under the Cholas, Hoysalas and Vijayanagara rulers; the surrounding region is treated in the Bhadragiri Mahatmyam of the Brahmanda Purana.
