History & significance

A mid-sixteenth-century Vijayanagara temple at Tadipatri built by the chief Pemmasani Timmanayudu II, a Monument of National Importance whose stone Garuda mandapa is carved as a chariot with turning granite wheels, in the manner of the Vitthala temple at Hampi.

Sthala katha — the legend

The presiding image is said to have been found in a tamarind tree - chinta in Telugu - which gave the god the name Chintala Venkataramana.
