The principal Sikh shrine of Tarn Taran, founded by the fifth Guru, Arjan Dev, and set beside a large sarovar in the centre of the town. Guru Arjan also established a leper asylum here, which passed to Christian missionaries in 1858; control of the gurdwara transferred to the SGPC on 27 January 1921 during the Gurdwara Reform Movement.
