One of the five Takhts, the supreme seats of Sikh temporal authority, standing where Guru Gobind Singh inaugurated the Khalsa in 1699. The shrine occupies the site of Anandgarh Qila, one of the forts the Guru raised at Anandpur, and the present building dates from a reconstruction in the mid-1930s.
